I’ve been happy lately!

Music: capsule | | dreamin dreamin → Mood: Good.

Okay, so I was going through the archives on here. Anyone remember that back in january I had said something like “I wouldn’t go out and buy something just because it was Arashi.”? NOW LOOK AT ME. I’m all buying magazines because of Aiba and spending ungodly amounts of money on them and not even caring.

I’m just going to talk about music in this post, starting with capsule! So you all know that electronic music turns me into a flailing mass of glee, so I don’t think it’s a big shock that I like capsule. megalopolis reminds me a bit of Electrode Spark 0101 (I think it’s the beat), but that’s not surprising considering Nakata Yasutaka is a member of capsule and he did the OST for LIAR GAME.

I really need to find more people that can squeal over electronic music with me. :(

About the new JE group Hey! Say! JUMP, DO NOT WANT. End of story. I’m not a huge fan of Ya3, but I really wanted them to debut together! I’m kind of hoping this is just a temporary group. *kicked*

Anyway, I had said that my next post would be about CDs, so here you go! \:D/

I’ve decided on the following to talk about:

- 鈴木亜美 joins 中田ヤスタカ - FREE FREE / SUPER MUSIC MAKER
- 嵐 - Happiness
- Perfume - ポリリズム

鈴木亜美 joins 中田ヤスタカ - FREE FREE / SUPER MUSIC MAKER
Genre: Electronic
01. FREE FREE
02. SUPER MUSIC MAKER
03. FREE FREE (extended mix)
04. SUPER MUSIC MAKER (radio edit)
Overall Rating: ★★★★½

This single is a release by Suzuki Ami, however it’s actually a collab between her and capsule’s Nakata Yasutaka.

I think we all know that I’m an electronic enthusiast. I didn’t know what to expect when I first listened to FREE FREE, but I wasn’t expecting to completely adore the song within the first listen. I find the song on repeat quite a bit, it’s got a good beat to it and the vocals are very fitting for the genre. Suzuki Ami’s voice isn’t too high-pitched, which is a very good thing as her voice is synthesized in the song which causes her voice to be higher pitched than normal. I dislike when voices are really high-pitched and then synthesized to be even higher in pitch. This song is arranged very nicely and I absolutely adore it.

SUPER MUSIC MAKER hasn’t fully grown on me yet, but I have to admit that I do like the song. It reminds me of Daft Punk, and I love Daft Punk. It has a house feel to it. I’m not a huge fan of house, but I don’t hate the genre. I don’t mind having this song on repeat, but it definitely needs to grow on me more. It has a good beat to it, but it’s not very “ethereal” sounding. Which is something I very much prefer. I like songs that have a more airy feel to them, so songs like this have to grow on me. But I do like it and it probably won’t take long for it to grow on me.

FREE FREE (extended mix) and SUPER MUSIC MAKER (radio edit) are essentially just edits of FREE FREE and SUPER MUSIC MAKER so I don’t think I need to go into them. If I liked the original, chances are I like the edits as well.

Overall the single is really good and is probably my favourite single right now. It has a few flaws, but it’s definitely a really good single.

嵐 - Happiness
Genre: Pop
01. Happiness
02. Still…
03. Snowflake (limited edition only) / Happiness (オリジナル・カラオケ) (regular edition only)
04. Still… (オリジナル・カラオケ) (regular edition only)
Overall Rating: ★★★★★

Arashi! *glee* Happiness is the theme song for the drama 山田太郎ものがたり. Since July, the release of Happiness had been something that I was anticipating. I had heard parts of Happiness so I knew I liked it before I bought the single, however Still… and Snowflake were entirely new songs to me.

Happiness is an upbeat pop/rock song that you can’t help but smile at. I don’t think anyone can listen to this song without smiling. Happiness is an extremely catchy song and you really don’t have to be an Arashi fan to enjoy it.

Still… and Snowflake are good follow up songs. Still… has a sort of spring feel to it. I don’t know why, but it reminds me of spring! I absolutely love the refrain in Still…. Snowflake is a bit more melancholic and it has a winter feel to it. I really like the music box sound to it and the strings are very complimenting.

Perfume - ポリリズム
Genre: Electronic
01. ポリリズム
02. SEVENTH HEAVEN
03. ポリリズム -extra short edit-
04. ポリリズム ~Original Instrumental~
05. SEVENTH HEAVEN ~Original Instrumental~
Overall Rating: ★★★☆☆

I like Perfume, I really do, but the beginning of ポリリズム drives me insane. It’s not the music, but more of the vocals. They’re too high-pitched and I dislike that. I didn’t really like the song until 1:32 in, and even at that it’s not a song I really like. It’s not bad, but I wouldn’t find it on repeat either.

SEVENTH HEAVEN is better. I don’t like how their voices are synthesized in the beginning, but as the song progresses and gets a more electronic song it’s really good. I really like the piano throughout the song. It took about 2 minutes for me to really get into the song, but I definitely like SEVENTH HEAVEN more than ポリリズム.
